Identifying Your WiFi Dongle

Your USB WiFi Dongle is a small wireless network adapter that plugs into any available USB port on your computer. Here’s how to identify it:

Feature

Description

Shape

Small, USB flash drive-sized device (typically 1–3 inches)

Connector

Standard USB-A plug (rectangular metal connector)

LED Indicator

Small LED light on the body — blinks when active, solid when connected

Antenna

Internal antenna (compact models) or external foldable antenna (high-gain models)

Label/Markings

Model number and FCC ID printed on the device body

Where to Plug In the WiFi Dongle

1. Locate a USB port on your computer.

USB ports are typically found on the sides of laptops or the front/back of desktop computers. They are rectangular-shaped slots.

2. Insert the WiFi dongle into the USB port.

Gently push the dongle into the USB port until it fits snugly. Do not force it — if it doesn’t fit, try flipping it over (USB-A connectors only fit one way).

3. Wait for your computer to recognize the device.

You should see a notification that new hardware has been detected. The LED on the dongle will begin blinking, indicating it is powered on.

💡 TIP: For the best WiFi signal, use the included USB extension cable to position the dongle away from your computer’s metal casing and closer to your router.

Connecting to a Wireless Network

Windows 10 / 11

1. Click the WiFi icon (📶) in the system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen).

2. A list of available wireless networks will appear.

3. Select your WiFi network name (SSID) from the list.

4. Click "Connect". Check "Connect automatically" if you want to auto-connect in the future.

5. Enter your WiFi password (network security key) when prompted.

6. Click "Next". Wait a few seconds for the connection to establish.

7. You’re connected! The WiFi icon will show signal bars and the dongle LED will turn solid.

Troubleshooting

• WiFi dongle not detected by computer

Try a different USB port. Ensure the dongle is fully inserted. Restart your computer. Check Device Manager (Windows) for driver issues.

• No wireless networks appearing

Ensure your router is powered on and broadcasting. Move closer to the router. Unplug the dongle, wait 10 seconds, and re-insert.

• Connected but no internet

Restart your router. Forget the network and reconnect. Check that your WiFi password was entered correctly.

• Slow WiFi speeds

Use the USB extension cable to reposition the dongle. Move closer to the router. Ensure no large metal objects are blocking the signal. Try connecting to the 5 GHz band if your router supports it.

• Driver installation required

Visit the manufacturer’s website (check label on dongle for model number). Download and install the latest driver for your operating system.
